CHARACTER
Name: Terra Branford
Canon: Final Fantasy VI
Age: 16
Specialty: Pyrokinesis
Position: Senior Camper
Personality:
Terra is a young, confused woman. She doesn't have many life experiences that she can recall, and as such, is quite curious about many things. She feels as if she's lacking the emotions she's meant to have - is she like the other campers? Is she... normal? Normal people haven't forgotten all of this about their parts... and normal people aren't psychics, are they? Yes, Terra has psychic issues - mirroring her fears of being an Esper, a monster who nobody can love, in her original canon.
In fact, this fear of being non-normal, of being some sort of monster, has filled Terras heart with many issues. She's afraid of bringing attention to herself. She's afraid of if she does, and if she gets in with the wrong crowd... well, she doesn't know what she's afraid of. But it controls her, it fills her every waking second. She might suddenly break off a conversation with a smile and a glance away, and try and not think of these dark thoughts. She'll probably mumble about her own fears to herself, though, as she's one who tends to state what she's thinking. Why? Well, it's just something she tends to do. She likes to think things over out loud, so others may correct her. She's afraid of being alone.
But, at the same time, she's not a fan of crowds. Crowds are bad, what if she lost control there? She is not a fighter. She is not strong, in her mind or body. She's only a bit better around it in Whispering Rocks, but it's not really much better. During times she's not meant to be training, she'll often keep to herself.
Terra, though, does have a few things she enjoyed. She enjoys animals, since they remind her of... calmness? She doesn't know why, but just sitting in a quiet place with an animal to rub, it just makes her feel calm and nice. And another thing? She's a fan of kids. Though, it's rather confusing - she's not sure why she likes them. But, in her months off of being at camp, she took up a job as a babysitter... and, well, it's stuck. She likes meeting these children and caring for them, and it's one of those confusing things in her life. Though, she will help other children around camp.
AU History:
Terra was born in a small, snowy town, to a retired Psychonaut and a normal woman. The thing most odd about this city was that it was not too connected to the outside world. There wasn't stable internet connection, there wasn't much news from outside. And, well... there weren't anybody who knew of psychics. This is why her father, Maduin, settled down with a woman here - Madeline. He was relaxed, Terra was born, everybody was happy.
And Terra was happy when she was a toddler, even if there were a few more fires then normal in her house. Maduin eventually told Madeline of psychic powers, and the fact their daughter may have... inherited them, or at least have some of her own. They both decided when the time was right, they'd help her control them...
But when she was three, a rogue psychic came to the small town, after Maduin. Maduin tried to protect Terra and Madeline... he couldn't protect them, though, and Terra was taken. Maduin and Madeline both wanted to save her. But... well... they soon fell to their injuries. The town only had a doctors office, not a hospital, after all.
For the next long while, 10 whole years, Terra was trained by this insane psychic. Sometimes, small animals came into the abandoned carnival she was kept in - this was her only reprise from the fighting and the weapon she was beginning to become. These animals are important - she likes animals now, though she doesn't know why! Her powers of flames and levitation grew, and her mind slipped into pure fear. Her powers, though? She was only trained to make them stronger, she wasn't trained to control them. There would often be strange flames from the abandoned carvinal, and sometimes people swore they saw a young girl floating around the area.
In fact, though, if it wasn't for these random flames? She'd still be there. A group of Psychonauts were sent to investigate, since it was pretty obvious this was the power of a psychic, and Terra was rescued. The government relocated her to a desert city, where she was given a new family, though her name was kept. Terra. It was the only thing identifiable about her, after all! That, and the necklace around her neck - a necklace Maduin wore. Over the first year with her new family, it was clear - Terra had blocked her memories of her trauma. Was she aware of it? Probably not. Her family, however, decided sending her to Whispering Rocks would be quite a good idea. Even though she was relocated, she still had incidents of losing control of her powers. Terra agreed, and that is when she started to go to Whispering Rock during the summer. During times at home, however, she started to babysit other people, to help her family with money issues.
This is her third year, now, at camp.
Brain World:
Terra has a very strange mental landscape - when you first enter it, it is a strange, pastel-coloured, which looks almost like a grassy plain, small creatures wandering around. There's a few trees, in the same colour scheme, and the field seems to go on forever. There's the slight feeling of frost and snow, but it's not cold. In fact, it's nice and calm... it'd be a nice place to stay, in reality.
Until you get to where the sky seems to meet the land, which takes but a little time, and hit one of the barriers. Flames seem to pour from the sides, flames which seemingly can't be escaped. If the people in her mind fight past it... they'll find a field of machines, a mechanical city, unable to be escaped. The city is just a wall, painted, the sides of her mind. But the field of flowers and kindness fades the further you get from it, you can float all around it. There's many barriers, though, which would be rather hard to get though. Many invisible barriers.
Behind these barriers are parts of her mind twisted, mechanical and psychic elements coming together. Twisted laughter can be heard, and the landscape itself may try and grab you. That is, if anybody ever gets that far.
Oh, and everything in her mind is styled after Yoshitaka Amano art. So it looks like a painting, like the concept art of FFVI. This includes her censors, and her cobwebs and baggage.
Badges: PSI-Shield, Levitation, Pyrokinesis, Invisibility.
Though she's older then the normal camper, and has been going for two years before this, she's only got so few badges due to having her issues. She hopes to get more this year, by the by! :D
